For those looking for some lighting options, the following sites have some quality products and are highly recommended by many MUDers.

The Cibie headlights look like a great solution. Is anyone here running them?

The 40 is running IPF headlights with 80/100w bulbs and an IPF harness that is wired to the battery. The lights are a little too bright and I need to drop the bulbs down to 55/80w. Great lights that change driving the 40 at night from scary to good.

I recently installed a set of the Bright Eyes lights as advertised on MUD with a harness that draws from the battery. They are very similar in design to the lights in the current FJ Cruiser. While much better than stock, they are not nearly as good as the IPF's. The horizontal cutoff line of the light pattern with the Bright Eyes is excellent and they are easy to aim, but there are holes in the pattern and they do not spread the light out as evenly as the IPF's.

Is anyone running the Hella replacement headlights or other high performance lights? Very curious about the Cibie's.

I've been thinking about this upgrade for the (temporarily lawn ornament 85 FJ60). Do I need a new wiring harness or not? Life is exciting enough in the truck without more smoke & fire IYKWIM...

To get the most out of your upgrade, Yes, you do need to upgrade the harness. It REALLY is not a difficult deal to do. A couple wires to the battery and a connector to the stock headlight harness and yer done. Just the harness makes a difference with standard sealed beam headlights.

I think you can run a standard H4 bulb on the stock harness (with some loss of output) without melting the stock wiring. With much more than 50/60 watt bulbs you could very well melt something with the resulting fireworks. I don't know as I just installed a harness upgrade at the same time in my vehicles.
