Harry says he still sells for ARB however I asked him one time for a price on lift and installation. $2000 was what he gave me and that's too much for me. MAF is selling for almost $800 for an entire 3" lift kit and $1270 for installation. $2000 is a lot.

Damn, that is expensive!

Amato Tire is next to Harry's place.

I spent less than $200 on metric tools, hydraulic jack, and stands to do the lift. And I got to use them again changing brake pads and installing my sliders. Learned some things along the way = priceless.

One of the reasons why they are my former mechanic. The cost-to-quality of work ratio just wasn't there. Harry is very knowledgeable about 80s, though.

Although I expect the quality work from Harry I think I'd benefit myself by trying to do the lift myself...with somebody's help of course.

For those prices, I'd drive up to Simi Valley and let MAF do it if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.

smug01 - you're not alone in the $$ thought. I don't think I've saved anything over the stealership on routine maintenance. The thing I'm never sure of is the 'sales job' on 'needed' maintenance or upsells you'll get from stealership service writers. Not sure where Harry or the owner of the shop falls there.

It really isn't that bad (I'm a:banana: to :banana:ish mechanic) provided you have the right tools, good 6+ ton jack stands, Slee's instructions, and a little Mud help :) I was just woried about the top front shock bolts and the bottom rear bolts since mine had been there for 10 years and I have heard of issues with shearing them that I did not want to tackle.

Harry seems straightforward enough, but I had issues with service execution that should not have happened at dealer-ish prices...hence the lack of a good value for the money rating. I don't want to say that I do not recomend them, just that I have used them and choose to go elsewhere. Feel free to PM me for the details if interested.

I now go to Ford's Automotive in Costa Mesa and have not had any issues with them.

If you guys end up doing this please let me know when/where. I'm hoping to someday lift my truck, so I'd like to learn. And, I am always willing to help or heckle - whichever seems most appropriate at the time :p!

Not a problem at all. You are more than welcome Joe. He still has to get the parts so it may be a little while. Will post up or PM when.

I am always willing to help  and watch and learn. Shoot I might even be able to hand tools, with my non-beer hand.
