SO I recently acquired another 60 from a neighbor who used to own a car lot. He picked this truck up on a trade in, and has decided because of the economy to dump all his inventory and shutdown before things start eating into his retirement. However Im blasting off into the great blue yonder soon so don’t think im going to get a chance to actually DO anything with this truck IE id like to pass it along to someone else who may actually have the time for it; and use the bucks to fund a trip.
Prior to me getting it, it was sitting in a car lot for some undefined period of time (I think a year to a few months,) prior to that it was owned by an engineer/mechanic who works/worked for BC ferries in Victoria BC Canada. From what I can gather from the service records he owned it back at least from 2002. It looks like he took meticulous care of the truck when it was in his ownership, and his record keeping is fantastic; (who knows maybe he is still on this forum!)
Points of interest:
-1982 BJ60 Very clean
-Canadian spec left hand drive over 25 years IE (it CAN be imported to the states)
-3B, appears to have good compression when stopped on hills; almost no blow by on breather tube.
-EDIC seems to swing happy as a clam
-12V twin battery system seems to be charging fine
-VERRY LITTLE RUST FOR THE VINTAGE (body has been ground, filled and painted, rear tailgate has been replaced; bumpers have been replaced, hitch has been replaced, scaling corrosion on frame is present but its no where near what you would expect for an 82 that’s lived in Canada its whole life. Appears and sounds solid stem to stern; no visible holes/cracks/fissures on either side of the frame rails.) There’s some mismatch in paint here and there. Even the pull down jacket for the rad still works!
-453,000 km (281,000 miles)
-4 speed manual
-Wilson switch
-Functioning hitch and wiring harness
-PROPERLY tinted windows
-re-sprung in 02
-Complete service records going back to at least 2002
-Aircared to Dec 09 last inspection in 08 was 1.13% out of a max of 30%
-ICBC damage history, glass has been done 3 times since new; and there was a collision repair for a little under $3000 in 87
-Alarm, immobilizer, drivers side electric locks on keyfob
-Stereo with 2 channel amp (they gave me the wrong face plate for the head unit so consider it wired for a deck but as not actually having one, unless you can source a replacement)
