Planning a trip up to Gold Lake on Labor Day Weekend with the wife and munchkins (2yr old and 5yr). Looking to take the scenic route from Sierra City on the Sierra Buttes trial and coming out at the 4x4 camp at Gold Lake.

Anyone run that route this year? Been doing lots of research and can seem to find anyone that has.

Maybe these ? should be under the SQOD

You that are fimilar with that route. Would my stocker make it?

Should I remove the spare and put it on the roof?

Google says it's 16miles and takes 60mins. Is that correct?

Just got the Falkens AT3 W in the 285/65/18 on stocks.

Thanks for any advice. Pretty novice wheeler. Had a 07 FJ for two years and a 01 Tacoma. But feel pretty confident in my driving abilities. I do have a class A commercial drivers license. Drive big ol trucks and trailers on tight city streets.

Thanks 200's

PS would be cool to meet up with another 200 at Gold.

I've taken my 200 from the Sierra Buttes trailhead to the Gold Lake 4x4 campground last year and had no issues other than some pinstripes from the brush. I do have a lift and 34" tires, but I'm sure a stocker could make it through without any major issues. I didn't run the full trail, but when I had my stock tundra, I attempted it and had to turn back around when there was a huge rock in the way and didn't want to risk barrelling down the mountain. Are you planning on camping at the Gold Lake 4x4 campground? If so, it may already be full as that place gets pretty busy during the summer.

Thanks DC.

I have a few pin stripes from last weekend that I need to buff out, mind as well wait I guess. Haha.

Hmm your statement of "no major issues" kind of makes me nervous. Just go the rig and not sure if I'm ready for any damage yet.

I was planning on camping there. Leaving very early Thursday morning. Would you recommendation not to try to get a spot?

Thinking of try to just stay somewhere in Sierra City or Graeagle.

Any other suggestions for a good day trip?

No problem, didn't mean to scare you away from the place. There are a few spots on that trail that might put a scratch on the rear bumper or exhaust pipe since you're stock height, which is why I mentioned "no major issues". If you're set on staying at the gold lake 4x4 campground, there is always the other option of wheeling in from the gold lake side. The trail leading to the campsite is not bad, takes around 30 minutes to get in. Search YouTube for videos of the trails. There are a few videos that will give you a much better idea of what the trail entails.
