Well After being without a landcruiser for just over a month, I have finally found a replacement for my 84 BJ60.

Flying out tomorrow early to go pick it up. I haven't seen it in person yet but if its as good as the CO says, its a deal. The only thing wrong with it is the good ole P0401 Code. I bought a ScanGauge II to take with me to verify the code.

The Truck has 225K Kms or 139K Miles Locked and Stock.

I wont be taking it into a mechanic to inspect it but have seen and heard enough of these to to know if something is seriously wrong. I know to check the HG for seepage, Brown coolant in the rad overflow, foam on the oil cap, etc. Does anyone got any more advice for me when looking at this truck? I'll verify that the lockers work, I'll check the front axle seals. Also, is there any tricks with a scan gauge that would help me make sure this is a good truck?

Thanks guys! Very excited to be moving into a new forum.

Chris

Still looks nice but the steering wheel can use some new leater wrapped and stitched on. Im also an lc80 newbie but superglad that i chose it over mitsubishi pajero and nissan patrol :-)

If the gas pedal is stiff or feels notchy, it's probably due to the rusty sheathing on the cable. I had to replace the one on my wife's LX 'cuz it looked exactly like the one in your pic. Just as a reference both of our 80's water temp read between 180-190 on the Scan Gauge when warmed up. Radiators have been replaced as well as the fan clutches along w/ 10k fluid. I bet you're super excited and can't wait.:D

Looks to be in very good condition.
Do you know which area of Canada it originated from?
There might be more rust on it then you are used to seeing on Western Canada
or Southern States trucks if it came from Ontario or Quebec.

Thanks. I'm really happy with it so far.

I had to replace The center, low range, and front position switches to get the lockers all working. all the actuators sound strong and engage quickly.

The ebrake bell cranks are seized and a couple of door lock actuators need servicing. No big deal.

The motor is solid The interior is great. I'm looking forward to modding it and doing some wheeling next summer.

Here are some shots at home after I have it a quick wash.

Beautiful LX! Although the sound system is probably original, how does the audio sound with the center sub up front? Any complaints with the ride (steering, suspension softness, etc) on the way home?

Hopefully I'll be in a LX very soon :D

Ya sound system is factory. I have to say, it sounds pretty darn good! The center sub is decent but could be bigger. I will replace it though as I would like a deck with Bluetooth and iPhone iPod connectivity.
Steering is really tight. And the suspension makes it feel like your in a comfy couch. (way too soft for me) engine purred all the way home WT was really happy sitting right around 186 on the highway. Even up the mountain passes I maxed out at around 202. Most of the mountain passes it was sitting around 194. I ran between 90 and 115 kph all the way home. According to the scangauge, I got 13.9 L/100km (21 mpg) which surprised me.

Good luck with your search I hope you can find a real gem

Looks like a good one!

One note on the scanguage economy reading. You need to set it up right meaning when you fill up tell it how much fuel you put in it. Do this for 5-10 tanks till you are changing it each tank less than a couple 2% each time. This tells the Scangage how much fuel you are really using and it will adjust and give you a accurate reading. its all in the Instruction book, mine started off like yours and once it was dialed in the best tank I got was 18.9 USMPG.

Looking forward to seeing it at a meeting and seeing what you do with it to make it yours.

Oh welcome to the light ;)

Good to know about the scan gauge. The last tank I threw in it, it was down to about a 3% adjustment. That was IMP MPG so about 17 USMPG.

I will definitely be joining the club now. I'm sure I'll see you around Jeremy. I love what you have done with your LX. Thanks for the welcome!

Ah sounds like you are getting it all tuned in.

I was able to make a trip up the valley last week with my truck from North Van all hwy with no stopping. I was being really easy on it trying to get maximum mileage. When I got to Chilliwack it showed trip average of 18.2MPG (US) lol. I was impressed considering 35's and stock gears. This was a fluke though I am sure and doing 95km/hr on #1 was a bit slow.

Good Luck and look forward to seeing you at a meeting.

Edit: Sorry miss posted my MPG reading.
