Needs lots of input, educations and photos. I want to take my 62 fj40 back to column shift. My first auto I ever owned was a 70 fj40 with three on the tree.

It has a later model 3spd trans with the sticks. I have various parts of the column shift, but not sure what.

I have the 62 FD pull knob and cable.

I have the engine side of the Vacuum switch, cable to trans cut off. Cannot see anything on the cab side of firewall.

Steering box in the fj now is a welded up mess, no clue what or why, I have another case from a later 60's not welded up. Not sure if this should have stuff for the column shift or not, but the ones I have do not.

How hard will it be to get the parts to do this. One person has the shift linkage and can include the top to the trans. He will email pics tonight. Is there just one or do I have to worry about it fitting on my trans. Can I get the parts to do the FD and hi/Lo shifters under the dash, will they work with this 3spd based on the picture.

I do not need 100% original 62, just close. I do not want to spend a ton of money so anything I can make fit would be good. I think the f engine and 3spd trans are early 70's, I have lots of odd parts so pictures would be good incase I have some already.

The steering box is going to be your biggest problem. You need one from a late 63 to 67. During 63 the style was changed. Not even sure the late 63 or 64 would work for you. I've seen a 64 here on mud that had a different linkage than the later style. After the 67 model the steering box base changed. Instead of a two bolt clamp the box bolted to the base with four bolts. The transmission shifting linkage pivits at the base of the steering column just before the steering box itself. The closer to 67 would be the best. The top cover of the transmission, linkage and vacuum shifter is not to hard to find and shouldn't cost too much.:meh:

Thanks I needed to know that, i found some one here on Mud who has the later steering box, and all column shift parts and he is also going to now also take the 4 bolt base off, thanks for that information. Found another person who also has the tcase parts. I think most parts are from the 70's column shift, but since I am getting all the parts and I already have a early 70's motor and drive train I hope I can put it all together and have 3 on the tree with no shifters on the floor. I have gone over Destins build, he had lots of good pictures of it all. Will keep searching for posts.
