God Awful Deep Squeak/Knocking Noise

I would agree with you. I had my tank installed by "professionals", and they used existing holes. If I had to do it over again I will drill new holes and make sure it has clearance. Very dangerous, and I am glad i caught it. I also had rubbing on the tail pipe during hard washboard. It had 1.5" of clearance at rest but I noticed the paint missing on another area of the tank and figured out it was the vibration.

It's a miracle. Sprayed everything and anything I could reach with heavy duty silicone spray and the noise magically disappeared... completely!

Now, for how long?

I think I am still going to drop the tank and put some dynaliner between it and the underbody.

Just a word of warning. I used epoxy to glue thin pieces of rubber to the worn spot. After I re-installed the tank i realized I forgot to hook up the fuel guage sensor. I lost patience and decided to complete a 10 day 2,000 mile trip to Utah and then fix it. When I dropped the tank my expoxy/rubber fix had failed already. I think the only permanent fix is lowering the tank like hoser did. That duraliner will wear off quickly. The problem is that the body is designed to flex and the frame does not flex or flexes differently.

One other major problem with these tanks is that they expand. I pressure tested the tank when it was off to try to find out why it was making "expansion/thunking" noises during high heat. During my pressure test to 10 psi the tank expanded and deformed a good 1/2inch on top. Any duraliner you install will not solve the that real problem. Sorry to type a book on this, but I spent months making mistakes with three installations and don't want others to do the same.

Yep. I think so. You can easily modify the bracket or drill new holes in the frame to drop that 1/2 or 1 inch and have a permanent solution.

I am sure you have looked, but I developed a squeak, knock (metal on metal)on my DS when turning, or at different angles. I found that it was my sliders. One of the ubolt sections on the DS is barely touching the underside of the floor. I think I am just going to dent in that area slightly, should fix it...:meh:

i am facing same issue....i even feel as if some thing hit the driver side floor from below and yes its not on any specific angel just happens mostly while turning or even while going through any small bump etc. I had the mechanic check the vehicle thoroughly by lifting it...but nothing found. please tell me if your issue was similar & how you fixed it? where are SLIDERS exactly & what does it do? i mean i will need to the mechanic.
