Glow Screen preheat over ride switch

I am wanting to install a manual over ride switch as described in this link

As stated in the thread I need to install an N/C momentary switch on the yellow wire (pin 7) that plugs into the timer but I need help locating the glow screen timer and wiring harness?

Though I might have better luck getting a response on the 70's forum

bump, as I want to do this soon too. rough starts this time of year with no glowscreen engaging.

Unplug the glowscreen control temperature sensor at the thermostat housing [it's the two conductor plug] and the key switch will control how long the glowscreen is activated. Simple, easy, cost effective.

when you unplug the sender like that does the light activate to let you know you are using the glow screen ?

unplugging the temp sensor, seems like a good short term solution but I would still prefer to install a manual switch.

What does the timer look like and where is it located?

Yes it does. You can also see the glowscreen action on the voltmeter.

I've been using this so-called 'short term solution' for about 5 years so far. Never saw a need to do anything further. The key switch gives complete control over the glowscreen action.

I only meant it was a short term solution for me. I unplugged it the other day at your suggestion and its working great. I would just prefer the manual switch to avoid unnecessarily cycling the preheat system when using ignition powered accessories such as the electric windows or my 12V converter. But thanks for the help.

Now if I could just figure out where that yellow wire (pin 7) is located under the dash??

For anyone searching this topic in the future, the timer is inside the glove box up under the dash. I added the NC momentary switch to the dash on the right side of the steering column. The only downside being the switch has to be pressed prior to turning the key on, which requires two hands or in my case a pinky finger to push it

Glad you found it. Sorry I forgot to mention to put the switch on the left of the steering wheel.

Thanks Urbancarrot. Actually you did mention it in your pm and ideally I would have liked to put the switch in the spot opposite of the idle control nob on the left side of the wheel. However I already had used that spot for my CB plug.
