Hi all. I'm new to the forum and am not sure if this is the right place to post this question, so I apologize if it's misplaced. Anyway, I'm getting a 68 FJ40 and will be looking to get it restored so that it's a relatively reliable vehicle for periodic use. I'm not sure where I should start with this. I live in Springfield, VA. Can someone recommend a good shop I can take it to that might be a good place for a preliminary look-over? My dad bought this new and is handing it down to me and I want to get it back in shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Craig

Welcome. You definately came to the right place! If its currently running and in drivable condition, I bet our members could give you a good idea of what the fj40 needs in terms of a general look over (probably a little more than that too). We meet in Alexandria the first wed of each month and also have a swap meet in fairfax this saturday.
Most of us have some mechanical talent under our belt so never hold back the questions!

Hope we can meet you and your 40 soon, feel free to post some pics in the member regestry section above if you like as well.

Hi Craig, welcome to the board!

First, I'll echo Andrew's comments. Bring it by the swap meet, if you have it already, or the next meeting in May. If you want to take it to a shop, try Lance at Iron Pig Offroad (www.ironpigoffroad.com). His shop is down in Fredericksburg. He'll be able to tell you what needs to be fixed and about how much it will cost to have it done. Check out the ipor website for pics of the recent resoration on Rob Blumel's fj40.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. I don't have the cruiser, yet, but hopefully will after the summer. Just thought I'd get a head start and see what was out there as a means of getting it in shape again. Looking forward to having it and getting some work done on it. Just going thru this site and looking at the pix is making me nostalgic for when I used to drive it.
Hope to meet you at a future swap meet.

Craig
