Ok Gang need to know what gears came stock in the 80's ? i think its 4:10's not sure and will the 80 series ring and pinion fit the 60 series set up ? any help would be Awsome

Yep, 4.10's on the 80's and yes the rear axle gears will fit in 60 series thirds. RustyDan did that swap, so he can better advise exactly what is needed.

I don't know if it is still there, but the Reno Pick-n-pull had (two weeks ago) a 1996 LX450 with 134k mileage that had the complete rear axle, so there is a complete third ready to go, not sure if that would work for you, but might be an option for one end of the truck.

Well i have the stock ring and pinions from both axles when i did my gear swap on my 80 so i have both the front and rear amd think im going to go with that when i swap the :princess:into my 60 series chasis with the 2 2/2 inch lift just need to know that i will have better gears than the stock 60 hehe

Just keep in mind that your front 80 gears will not fit in your 60. 60= 9.5" straight cut gears, 80 front= 8" "reverse" cut gears. Big difference.

Actually, I have a better idea for the experimental vehicle, just have to find the right one. I found one in WA: '96, 350+k miles and right at $2k for purchase price. Timing just isn't right. After Alaska, I will be on the hunt. Then the games will begin. :flipoff2:

What's this about!?

What's this about!?

Well, my eventual plan is to cut out the roof of an 80, adapt a flippac type camper to the roof, and make the 80 into the ultimate backcountry camper. You know Volkswagen Westfalia style only better.

Dan is referring to my idea of finding a cheap 80 to "proof" my idea on. I don't want to cut mine up in case my idea doesn't work. Second, I have decided I need preferably a 96-97 because that gives me a ton of extra parts for mine. One being a motor that I can take me time refreshing and then swap into mine. Clear as mud?:D

That sounds pretty cool! My friend steve is doing something similar to his Defender 110. He took an ex military ambulance shell of an old 110 and is adapting it to the truck to make a small camper. He's the one I told you about who went on the 8 month expo around South America with his GF. 8 months in an Eezi-Awn wasn't the best from what he said!

Or use the experimental truck and make it a cowboy convertible with a Canbak top. That would be a great start for a Rubicon/Fordyce type rig.

You know you want it.:flipoff2:
