Hey guys,

I want to use my Cruiser as a Daily Driver for at least the next two years, at which time I want to buy a new Cruiser and start restoring my FJ40.

Untill then I need to drive it on the highway a good bit, which means speeds in excess of 60 mph.

I have two questoins:
1) should I get a new carb, cause it seems like the one on there has a hard time at high speeds
2) what would be the best gear ratio for me since I'll be using it mostly on the highway; I only plan on trail riding a few times each summer untill I can start restoring it.

Thanks,

We need a little more info to help you out: Year, Model (40 60) Tire size, Lift, 3-4 speed......

cheap overdrive

Big tires will give you an overdrive effect.
The 33s on my 40 give about 8 mph increase for the same rpm.
GPS verified. :)
Early 40s had 411 rear gear
Later 40s have 370 rear gear
Higher # equals higher rpm for a given mph.
Higher # equals better crawl however.
It's always a compromize. ;)
Bad carb isn't helping but driving a 40 over 60mph is asking
trouble in an emergency.

more info

It's a 1971 FJ40, it has 32" tires, 3 speed, no lift as of yet.
Right now I don't want it to crawl, I need it to be a daily driver and later I will want it for some trail riding and other things.

Thanks,
papaholmz
