Hi folks, rehabbing my first FJ40, looking to replace gauge cluster. Many choices to buy, so are they all made by one company and branded differently? Which brand is best to purchase? Particularly that they build a reliable product? No, I’m not interested in a $1000 Dakota Digital. Any insight will be appreciated. Happy FJing.

No clue. Please post what you get. I need to fix my odometer, speedometer is still working, Gas gauge is still wonky as the day I got my 72 in 82. Odometer was my best gas gauge. My direct read oil pressure gauge is still working great since 85. Amp meter still working fine from day one.

Hi Charlie Meyer007, I will definitely pass on what a learn regarding aftermarket gauge clusters. That product offering is a black hole of questions.

Ebay has been flooded the past several years with a Chinese copy of a later kilometer version. New Toyota clusters can be found but obviously cannot meet the cheap Chinese prices. BTW, the Chinese establish sellers in a number of US city locations. Cannot comment on the quality of this Chinese product, but it is NOT from Toyota, and for the most part still believe you get what you pay for.

A couple of questions. How bad is your current cluster and what do you want the result to be? Functional or pretty?

The aftermarket options on eBay are not plug and play for a 77 you will need to do some work to make one work.
