So I braved the hefty gas prices and decided to fill up the tank lastnight. Pretty uneventful experience except for the guy next to me who couldn't figure out how to work the pump. It was slightly cold lastnight but not too bad. I went out to the garage this afternoon and gas was leaking out of the tank. I opened the gas door and it was leaking pretty good out of the cap. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is it just the gas expanding d/t change in temperature or is there some other problem. I notice that if I try to completely fill the tank I will smell gas for a few days, so I stopped trying to fill it completely up. I didn't purposefully overfill lastnight, anyone have any ideas on how to fix the problem? Any advice would be very appreciated.

make sure you have a good, new oem cap. also make sure that the threads that tighten the cap down haven't bent over time and allows the cap to spin past tight and allows the seal to undue and then depressurize the system. when it pressurizes, you get leaky gas out of the cap/filler neck. had to train myself to be real careful with it until i get the lip bent back out.

otherwise, check on the inside behind the rear panels to make sure there's no leaking inside the cab.

by the way. I smelled gas for the first time earlier this week. It was shortly after re-fueling. I checked the evap system which is right behind the interrior panel and found no notable leaks.

I am still a touch concerned, but the smell in the cab went away after a day or two.

A new OEM gas cap usually fixes these problems, and may give a slight performance boost as well.

Probably about as much boost as adding yellow paint or a NOS sticker will though......

Or am I just dumb?
