Hi guys -

I received a set of Aegis 250# struts and am looking at how to install them. First time working with these, so be kind.

Do you have any tips on how to best compress the struts for installation or is it best to mount them extended?

Where are there strategic places to mount them to maximize their abilities? I'm thinking of installing some angle iron with multiple mounting positions for the struts as the weight on the lid will vary depending on how it's loaded.

Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!
Randy

Did you read the replies to your last post? The McMaster Car page has all the answers as far as lift placement goes. Plug in your numbers and install them. Instal works much better and easier if the struts are open. I don't know how you would compress them to install them. You would also have to be inside the unit to instal them.

I proped my topper open to the height I wanted it and chose a spot for max extension on the strut and bolted them in. If you have two 250# struts you should be good putting them in just about anywhere you want.

I did :D. I was just looking for any more tips or suggestions from folks who have installed them before. Seems more straight forward than I thought.

Thanks for the info.

I wasn't rying to be a smart ass but if you have those heavy of units it really will be easy to find a spot to mount them. They will lift a lot of weight so your options are many. Good luck.
