Hi All,

My old gas strut of my swing-out spare wheel carrier has broken down and is beyond repair. So I'm looking for a replacement. Unfortunately, there are no specifications on the old strut whatsoever, so I did the measuring myself, but... I don't have a clue how much force the gas strut requires. The swing-out is a TJM style type and the spare wheel is a BF Goodrich AT 285-75-16 on a TX Performance rim.
Some say 100Nm, others say 300Nm.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Ciao, Jurgen

Not sure you'll get much help here. The US spec 80s have a spare mounted under the rear cargo area.

Some of the manufacturers of the swing out bumpers use the same lift struts that hold up the rear gate. If your dimensions match the ones on the rear gate, then use one of those. Should be in the 150-175 PSI range I would guess.

Thanks, RFB. EU original specs also have the spare mounted under the rear cargo area, but in my case the rear bumper has been replaced with a TJM-style bumper with swing-out for the spare wheel carrier (in the original place there is the 175 liter diesel subtank).

Thank you, Bilt4Me, I have checked those struts, would be a logical solution, but unfortunately these struts are too long. I'll be still on my quest!
