It is going to be tire time in the next few months for my 1994 fzj80. I am really torn about going up to a 35" tire or 315/75/16. I spend some of the year in Atlanta and I bet that size with stock gears would be fine there. But I don't know if stock gears on 35" will cut it out here. Is anyone running a 80 with 35s and stock gears in this part of the country?

I don't mind a re gear if I have to. I want things to be done right. But if I need to regear then that will have to get factored into my decision of going with 315/75/16,or staying with my 285/75/16. To be honest my 285/75/16 with lockers and armor get me most everywhere I want to go.

After seeing what a stock 80 with no lift on 33's could do in Moab, I'm not going only bigger. I've even given thought to ditching my 2 1/2" lift, and going back to stock with 1" spacers. Seems like low center of gravity + armor to bounce off of = ....well, I'm not sure, but it might be better. Local experts would say 33's on an 80 is ideal. :meh:

I know...I have almost the exact setup you describe. OME 861/862 with 30-40mm spaces, Fox 2.0, sliders, skid plate bumpers and lockers on 285/75/16 and it is really good. The biggest limiting factor for what i need is that my BFG KOs are not very aggressive on wet trails. I should probably leave well enough alone but i keep looking at the 35s. You know the sickness.

Im running 35's on stock gearing. The only downside is it is slow on the highway going up big hills and stuff, not so slow that everyone passes you but definitely a lot slower that you are probably used to. It still cruises at 75mph just fine when not going uphill though. Low range is still super low, i can crawl boulders or ledges no problem. In the end I think it would be nice if it was re-geared but not necessary.
