Snorkels on an FZJ80...I endlessly debate whether I want to drill a big ass hole in my fender for questionable payoff. So, let's do this the unscientific way! Post your stance/opinion below...

Waited for years to do mine, just installed it about two weeks ago. I like what it looks like, the drop in IAT and just the fact that I finally have one installed. I do believe that beyond helping with dust and the drop in IAT they are pretty much a waste of time, effort, and money on an already well designed intake.

Just do it. I think they are fun for no reason. Maybe the chick thing works or maybe it doesn't. You can always pick up a spare quarter panel + chinese dorkel for less than the cost of just the OEM or Safari dorkel. <ducking>

I am debating the same thing. I ordered an OEM snorkel from @ranma21. I like the way it looks. Its not a big deal for me to move the antenna to install it. I have debated for 2 yrs on this mod. However when holding it up to the side it just looks right, especially when i have the roof rack built for it. I frequently travel on alot of dirt roads so it may benefit with cleaner air intake and I have seen IAT's up to 160. So may help there. I also don't mind the thought of protection in deep water, even if I have no immediate plans for deep water crossing. I however am freaked out with cutting into the fender, so my plan is to drop off at a local Toyota guys garage who has installed over 15 or more snorkels on 70's, etc. and let him do it for me.

I live in Florida running trails with deep water is common so for me yes a snorkel. Just remember to do everything else needed for running in deep water.

I'm out here in California like...

You know I debated on it too. Then I was like well, my $hit is starting to look pretty absurd with the big a$$ tires, all that armor, winch, etc etc. Its not like the truck is sporting a subtle look anyway. For less than $150 why not just make it really over the top. If you ever did require it then that's a lot cheaper then a new motor right ?

Get two of them -- one on each side for full ROPS - Roll Over Protection System.

What roof rack is built for the OEM snorkel?

I don't like the look and I will not drive through water deep enough to overcome the stock setup. I can see getting one for the drop in IAT or the "less dust" factor I've seen some people comment on, but I don't think I ever will. I don't like explaining crap to my wife and "why is there a snorkel on your truck?" is a conversation I would rather not have.

You gotta get her trained up. My wife finally just stopped asking. Now I just get the eye roll and a "whatever."

I did it cause it looked good, but after having it for a couple the cooler forced air is nice I picked up 7 miles more per gallon. Plus driving dusty roads the cleaner air is nice. And my MPG was not affected I just thought it would be enticing......

Might want to redo your math. No way in hell you got a 7MPG increase. Nooooooooooooooo way.

Paint to match and buff your snorkel in public

The question Phil is how the heck you manage to avoid scrub brush and keep that thing so dam clean and shinny where you wheel?

I'm guessing you carry a big machete or pruning sheers :-)

BTW I know that not your rig... :-)
