I don't like the look and I will not drive through water deep enough to overcome the stock setup. I can see getting one for the drop in IAT or the "less dust" factor I've seen some people comment on, but I don't think I ever will. I don't like explaining crap to my wife and "why is there a snorkel on your truck?" is a conversation I would rather not have.

picking this up, since oddly my gf says she wants me to get a snorkel. I guess I should feel inadequate now?..

I'm on the fence with the snorkel. I have an S/C so it would def make sense wrt IAT but I feel with the lift and tires and living in NYC i'm pushing the bro envelope far enough. if I move to the bush I'll def get one

Roca Silva snorkels

Strange but I think I prefer the Safari snorkels to these. Unless they're attached to a Maltec HDJ80

The pictured Maltec 80 series sold at EXPO last week and suitable 80 are getting difficult to find. The 200 series is the new rave

If you like the look, go for it. I personally don't care for them, but that's just me.

@LandCruiserPhil not sure I follow. You're saying 80s in good condition are hard to find? Or that people are favoring 200s now.. or both?

Both, importable 80 series in Germany are hard to find and the 200 series diesel is a beast dressed in silk.

Snorkel’s are ghey. Who the hell on Mud drives under more water than the stock set up will handle as seen on YouTube anyway?

This is where you tell me all about how the cleaner, ram air affect boosts HP and MPG significantly. ;)

I have twice pulled trucks out of "puddles" on a trail, that turned out to be deeper than the drivers expected. On another occasion I was the guy who didn't walk a creek to creek the depth. I thought the water might be to the top of my tires. It got to the top of my hood...

...and then there was a dip in the riverbed. I got out without hydrolocking the engine.

So, once in my life I was in a poorly planned situation where a snorkel would have been comforting. Twice in my life I've seen vehicles that would not have been ruined if they had a snorkel. I got my snorkel because I like the look, and I enjoy the conversations it starts.

I don't know what it is about them damn snorkels but when I first saw them years ago, I thought, "Man that is so damn stupid!" Fast forward a few years and I love them.

Just like @Blade 80LC mentioned above, I'd like to be over-prepared and not need the thing, than up sh*ts creek without a snorkel.

^^^ That 2nd video was stressful !!! I've shown the first one to everyone I know it seems. It's my favorite.

People dig the snorkel for sure. My truck is cammo wrapped and I get as many comments about the snorkel as I do about the wrap. Plus, it quickly separates car people from non-car people. People have asked me if it is an exhaust pipe or turbo ... they are not car people.

In NYC you are right, probably pushing it a bit far with a snorkel. For me I'm not that into them but if was presented with a situation where it would truly be used on a regular basis then I would get one. I see it as a functional item rather than a styling one. I bet less than 1% of the cruisers out there are in situations where a snorkel is truly necessary.

they look nice and it does bring down the intake temps alittle but not much but if you need to get to your ps flare you have to take it off as far as I can tell. if you put one one change the flare gasket while youre in there... you will never to get to use it for water and if you do theres much more you need to do to waterproof your ride. otherwise the engine will die but not for a lack of air but electrical... I like to convince myself that it stays out of the dust as some people like to say, but probably gets more of it... and bugs, and leaves, and rain... looks good tho!

Bump

Arb snorkel still the only quality game in town for my 97 fzj?
