Not sure why this old thread was bumped, but I will add that I installed my knockoff snorkel in 2013 and it is still good as new. No fading or deterioration at all. Truck lives outside in Florida. I’m surprised.

its been 10 yrs and i have debated this since got the cruiser and now my definitive answer is NO for me.

I recently looked at the oem air intake on my 92. I was surprised how the intake turns down inside the fender and only leaves about an 1 inch gap for air to go in to the intake. Seems like a big restriction. And why? To prevent water sucking up?

When I rebuilt my '96 rescue from Maine, the original fenders were to bad too save. I could only find some older fenders from a 91/92. They were not pretty or smooth by any means but no rust. Holes in the wrong place for the flares so given the overall starting point I didn't hesitate to fit my snorkle.
Then the accident happended....Pax side fender was destroyed. I was able to find an almost perfect fender off a 97. Its been painted (was red and i need white). It looks immaculate. Knowing how rare fenders are i am now very torn about gouging a 4" hole in this perfect fender. Kids want the snorkle back. Wifey says no. Tough days 😪

To be honest, I simply like the look and the cooler intake and less dust are a nice benefit but not necessarily needed. I don’t plan to drive through deep water but do have one river crossing that I do some in spring where it could be handy on the odd occasion. Obviously it’s a personal preference.

I'm neither Hell Yea or Hell Naw.

I've had my snorkel for more than 10 years. Originally I installed it due to heat soak issues. My Cruiser was sucking in seriously hot air front the fender during the summer time. Heat soak at stop lights was a problem. Installing the snorkel fixed the issue and the engine ran more consistent.

Several years ago, my original chinese snorkel split from a manufacturing defect. The material was thin around one of the mounting holes and the crack propagated around the middle of the snorkel. When I removed it, the snorkel literally broke into two pieces. I ordered another snorkel and installed it along with a the Toyota OE bird cage to pre-filter the air before it hit the air filter.

Would I do it again? Yeap. It is necessary? No not really. Does it look offroady and cool? I guess.
