I may be looking to import my '94 FZJ80 with 165,000mi from the US to New Zealand in the coming months. It's obviously LHD with it being a US-spec vehicle, but I don't think I would have to worry about any conversion over to RHD since it's 20+ years old. My main question is around the WoF inspections that would be required to get it licensed for road use over there. My 80 is in good shape, but I bought it as a DD / project car that I'm planning to slowly build and restore. It is basically stock mechanically and cosmetically. With the age there are oil leaks and things that haven't been fixed yet. Are these types of things a deal breaker for WoF?

My other option, that I'm honestly leaning to at this point, would be to sell it stateside and find a 70 or 80 series replacement once I'm in NZ. They do seem to be somewhat more expensive than what I paid for mine, but definitely more of a selection.

It wil need exemption for left hand drive and will need to go through compliance before its allowed on the roads here I'd say. Compliance is alot more full on than just a wof and the costs are likely to be in the $1500-$1800nz range once you get registration sorted too. Checkout TradeMe for an idea on costs in NZ - it's like our Ebay. I'd suggest buying parts/upgrades in the states then bring them all with you as buying all the parts then shipping and paying GST will add up quick.

Sell it and buy a diesel once you get there. Petrol is expensive- you'd be better off with a more economical, and way cooler, diesel.
