My AC had a slow leak for several years. I would just add some coolant every spring and it was good for the year. Well, the leak became a blowout, I guess. Now it pulls a vacuum on my gauges(one of them, I think the low pressure side).

Any one know much about the AC system? I'm hoping it's an o-ring where the line attaches to the compressor. I *think* I saw a little leakage there.

Any ideas?

I'll probably take it to my trusted mechanic, as I haven't fooled with AC that much, and because it will need to be evacuated before being recharged, I reckon.

I had to replace the entire AC on my 95. Its in the 80 thread somewhere that I kept up. I had leaks at the O rings to the drier, compressor, and evaporator. I also had crimped lines as well that leaked.

They sell a leak test kit where you can send dye into the system then use a black light to find a leak. Try that first to find the leak. I would try to troubleshoot it by finding the leak yourself then taking it in. Just my .02.

Hey fellas,
I just pulled two lines out to replace o-rings and found that the o-ring kit I bought at Pepboys was the wrong size. The aftermarket set I found are all a hair thinner, even though they are the same size. Something about one being for domestic, Europeans and some Asian makes and there being another gauge/width o-ring for other Asian makes. Any ideas?

probally metric size on the 80. O rings easy to change and address. PM beno for the right parts. There are a couple of guys in your state (GA) that are LC parts guys...I"m sure they can get you the right o rings, (assume you live in GA as noted in in your avitar) iLos

Sorry for the delay and replying back. I felt pretty silly when you mentioned metric size, kinda like "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?" kind of thing. And you were right on the money. I picked up a set of metric size o-rings and replaced them. Problem fixed. Thanks for steering me in the right direction and THANKS Mud, for giving us this platform to tap into for help. Awesome stuff!
