I have done some figuring as well on costs for my fj62. Alot of this is comming from my recent thinking I want a 40 as a 2nd cruiser:

1. To get my fj62 where I want it to be (staying with 33's and nothing real fancy) I am going to need to spend approx another $600
The $600 includes:
Shocks - $150
Front Axle rebuild - $250
Steering tre’s - $100
Tire mounting - $50
axle to caliper brake lines - $30
Extended End links F&R- $50

2. To go up to 35's and regear as well as the other stuff I want to do will cost approx an additional $3300-$3800
Sliders - $200
Front Bumper - $400
Rear Bumper w/ tire carrier and 1/4 protection - $400
Used Winch: - $500
35's - $200
BL (Maybe) - $200
4.88 gears (Thirds from DD, if he still has um) - $1000 ($1300)
Longfields $500

3. To stay with 33's and not re-gear would cost: #1 + the following.
Sliders - $200
Front Bumper - $400
Rear Bumper w/ tire carrier and 1/4 protection - $400
Used Winch: - $500
Total = $2100

Man that stuff adds up fast! Alot of this depends on what I can get deals on and what I cannot as well. And to be honest I dont know if there is any way I will ever spend the $4400 max total on my 62.

The point of all this. I am not real sure, I really wanted to put some figures down. To see what cost are going to be to finish the 62 and get it updated on maint. stuff.

Any advice on any of this, I really want to hear advice from others. Why how to do it cheaper, or there is no way you can do it for that, etc. Basically talk me info modding the fool out of the 62 or buying a 40 and spending $3K total on it as a mainly trail rig.

If you think the 33's could probably meet your needs, I'd go with them. Where can one find $200 sliders for a 62? Forget the 40 and keep your money in the 62 is my advice.

Thatnks for your advice. What option do you think is more reasonable with 33's? Any particular reason you would recomend no 40 ? Is it b/c you own a 60 series only?

$200 sliders is what I was loosely quoted by a local awhile back. Definately not ordering any of the bumpers or sliders from a company and paying that much.

Anybody else have any advice?

I'd go with the 33's, shocks, front axle rebuild, etc. and sliders to start with. You might decide to regear to 4.56 later. Might as well keep your stock bumpers for now. My theory is: Don't more put money than you need to into an offroad machine. Buying a 40 won't be cheap anyway you slice it and the 62 is a much more comfortable truck.

I owned a 40 for awhile. They're tanks too, albeit loud and completely devoid of creature comforts. The 70, on the other hand, is comparable to 60 series in the comfort level. Bump.:)

I don't think you can do everything on your list for less--in fact, I'd be surprised if it all came out that cheap. But an alterrnative is to just put the 33's on, maybe add the sliders eventually, and forget about most of the rest. That's all you really need for moderate wheeling (and I drove 33's on the street for a long time with the stock 62 gearing and it really didn't bother me). You can add more of the other stuff slowly over time....
