So if I turn my steering wheel one full turn RIGHT while driving, I hear a metal rubbing on metal sound. It is constant until I bring the steering wheel back to < 1 full turn. It is ONLY when I turn right and exists from > 1 full turn all the way to lock. I took it to a mechanic who was stumped. He said everything was tight and working as it should be. Drivability seems fine, but I actively avoid sharp right turns. Which drive me nuts.

-2004 Toyota land cruiser @123,000 miles.
-New steering rack ~15,000 miles ago.
-new lift 1.5" 865's, fox 2.0, spc UCA, stock torsion bars ~2,500 miles ago
-new tires 295/65/18 duratracs (do not rub lock to lock. I've checked a few times)

Are my axles shot? Do my bearings need grease? Do I have faulty NEW(er) parts? Any advice will help. I want the noise gone and I don't want to blindly throw money at it.

Considering your comments you have an internal issue with one of the drive axles. Was a differential drop installed at the time of the lift? With out one the axle angle is a little extreme increasing the stress and wear. Are both axles OEM? Any visible grease around the axles? Are boots dry?
If your issue is the axles the problem will only get worse. If you plan on doing it yourself to save a small fortune suggest you remove, disassemble and inspect for wear. Since one may be the culprit you might be looking at replacing one and possibly both. Rebuilt Toyota Axles are available at some dealers along with new. With the mileage the maintenance is due.

While you have it apart it would be advisable to disassemble the hubs, inspect parts, replace them as needed, replace grease, repack bearings, replace differential seals, etc. Plenty of info and free advice hear to guide you through. Hubs require attention and regular repacking is a must. Would be a nice Saturday job.

I'm sure others will add to my comments.

Got a second mechanic to look at it. Took him an entire hour to locate the problem, but it was not only located, but fixed!

Apparently the new bracket for my abs wire was bent to where the side lugs of my tire would rub on it ever so slightly making the sound I was hearing. Only on right turns. Only on right side. Plus, I had an issue with my abs/trac where my truck tried to pull me off the road (twice in the last 2000 miles). I'm betting the two are linked. Glad I didn't need a new axle =)
