Hello Everyone,

During this evening's meeting, a topic arose about Fun Day. So here are the circumstances, and the currently tabled discussion.

First off, we all know that James & Amy Henry, with help from Ross Woody, have done a MOST EXCELLENT JOB hosting and coordinating the daunting task of FUN DAY, for several years now. Although they are very happy to do so, it is time that they all got a little break. With that being said a brief discussion was had, and the following three ideas seem to be all excellent, but no direct conclusion was decided. However, it was decided that I (PMC MUD moderator), would inform the club, and retrieve the overall consensus of the club via this poll. So the following 3 options are what seem to be the best ideas, and the one with the most votes will be further discussed and from there FUN DAY 2013 plans can commence.

Option #1
Local day BBQ, this option would be staying somewhere local for a mid morning to mid afternoon family oriented gathering. Such as a nice lunch BBQ, possibly a pot-luck style feast. As Roger Taylor noted this is what FUN DAY was created for, not necessarily as a wheeling event, but more of a social gathering amongst friends and families. This event could be held almost anywhere, a private residence, a local park, some beach on the coast, many ideas were tossed out, but the general idea is a short gathering, then everybody goes back home.

Option #2
For option #2, this event would need to be held somewhere that offers overnight camping, as well as an area that we could gather, for this option a place like Lake Pillsbury, Oak Flat would be good (not the only place I only use it as an example). This would allow us to have a gathering for the day, and those of us that would like to stay could find a spot and set camp, whether you choose a tent, or tow in a trailer, and those that want to leave at the end of the day can do so at will. The Overnight camping would be your responsibility, and no guarantees that we can stay grouped are made. This option also allows for some light wheeling, if so desired.

Option #3
PMC secures a group Campsite, something like the group campsite at Spring Lake park, (not the only place I only use it as an example, however, when I do walk through there with my dog, I have always envisioned the group hanging around the beautiful fire ring, telling stories and jokes. I would even stay the night there, and it is literally less than 1 mile from my home, but it is really a beautiful area). We would still have the standard gathering, with BBQ or Pot-Luck, but we would also have a group environment for hanging out, have a great campfire gathering in the evening, and camping overnight, for those who want to stay, and wrapping it up the next morning. However, this option would most likely be a non-wheeling event, depending on the available group camping options.

So now you know what was discussed regarding Fun Day, and now it is your time to speak up and express your desired Fun Day option, by participating in the poll at the top of this thread. Once we have determined the outcome of the Poll we will find an appropriate place and start to set plans. We know that more research will be needed and this in NO-WAY will close this matter, this is just the first step, we need to know which direction PMC as a whole would like to go.

Thank you for your time , and your participation in PMC.

As Roger noted, Fun Day (originally coined by Butch Lewis and initially held at his residence) was supposed to be a non wheeling, family social type event but Toyota friendly such as the RTI ramp and open shop.

Bob Millar and Tim Wehrer hosted the event as they had enough property to enable the gathering which also offered a locking the hubs opportunity, and the Henry's offered up their property (thanks James and Amy!) which of course has been ideal for the club event.

I'll remind the old PMC'ers I was the only person to actually host Fun Day not on a private residence and that was the year we held it at Cow Mtn: used that little park on teh right where we actually drove our cruisers into the park, wheeled at Cow, Russ roled his freshly rebuilt 40, and it was hot. So a non residence Fun Day was held and it was probably the least successful.

And of course, PMC used to Group Camp yearly at Lake Pillsbury as initiated by Roger and Tim I believe. That is where we all learned how much time Tim and Kathy W. had spent in the pillsbury area during their teenager years and what problem children they must have been for their parents! :-) This event also fell to the wayside for lack of interest and participation, compouned by the cost and lead time/scheduling.

I only bring this up because change is refreshing and healthy for club activities, yet experience can be gleamed from previous club efforts. In reading Mike's note (thanks for drafting Mike), it seems a new venue for Fun Day is needed, and perhaps club members are ready for another group format camp opportunity. The Pillsbury group camp works well and allows all forms of transportation including some wheeling, or day visit via the Kia. Oak Flat serves the same purpose with less scheduling issue but more raucus area and you never know who will be there or what they'll be doing (partying, shooting guns, driving ATVs to the wee hours, loud music, late night around the campfire, etc). Wait a minute, that is exactly what we would do!!! :)

and lets not forget, Fun Day has also served as a May meeting and was supposed to focus on planning for the Swap Meet in the past.

So, is there a Fun Day chairperson (volunteer)??

Tony,
No we do not have a current chairperson as of yet, but once we determine the route the club wishes to go, I am sure we will find one.

And how come you did not participate in the poll? Hee Hee Hee Hee

I greatly agree with Dion, what good is a poll if you do not use it.

I'm curious how many local club members actually check this site....

i got the email and i voted ... hope this helps ...
