I was wondering if anyone knew if there are multiple fuel tank capacities put into a Canadian 1985 BJ70? My fuel gauge has been bust for a while and when it is right on empty I put in 60 litres, but I was wondering if I could be running it longer?

Officially 7* series have 90 litre tanks, but I doubt you can get much more than 85 litres from empty.

They usually read empty after 70 ltrs

I find they are not empty unless the needle has gone way past empty, and not full unless they have gone way past full:D

I have found that there is a lot of variances with 70,s fuel guages ,lets start a new thread and see where each model is .
I was driving a customers BJ74 a few years ago with the gauge on the E line , 2 more klm the bloody thing ran out of fuel .
I was thinking my FJ 70 of the time ran out much lower than this and would be fine . Had to buy a tin and tools and a long walk to get it going again .

When my HZJ73 died due to fuel starvation I was able to get slightly over 83 liters (22 gallon) in the standard fueltank.
When I get a warning light the needle is slightly above "E" and when I refuel at that moment I need about 72 liters to top up.
Topping up in my case is fuel visible in the neck.

As my average is about 7.5 km to the liter (or 18 miles to the gallon) I have to refuel within about 50 kms or 30 miles to be on the safe side.

Ive always wondered if you could get more in by lifting the filler side about 50mm.
I think my record is about just over 83 litres too.
Cant quite get that in the 75 series rear tank for some reason although they are suppose to be the same as the swb and mwb.

I own a 1985 BJ70 Canadian, when I fueled it after installing a new fuel tank it took a little over 22 gallons, when my fuel gauge shows empty I usually get 20 gals into it, I have not run my rig out of fuel so I don't know when between 20-22 gallons I would not have the pickup in the fuel. 22 gals=83 liters.

My BJ74 when needle on E will usually take 75 litres to fill to tank neck.
