I read my manual today and it said something like "Use unleaded 87 octane [Research 91 octane] only." I think it was on page 87. I don't have the manual in front of me.

I think they left in their note accidentally.

So what do you guys use? Any reason to use 91?

I use regular most of the time. Every once in a while I will use 91.

I use Regular...mostly from ESSO (thats EXXON for all yall American folk). Due to a points card I have, I haven't paid for gas in 3-1/2 months or about 5000 kms (thats 3125 Miles for all yall American folk).

No need to put any higher octane in, It is a waste.

I looked at the "Research 91 octane" when I perused the manual, and too thought it was a typo. I don't think it is though, I think that all the Miles per Gallon and Horsepower numbers are derived from using 91 octane.

Hmm....so your manual states the same thing? Did you truly notice a difference with 91 when you used it? I would rather not, but if its borderline which is better, I'll take 91.

No difference. Put in 94 though...that's a different story.

IIRC, in Australia our regular unleaded is RON 91, we then have 95 and 98, we don't 87 for nobody!

So dtt255 and chimyz, you both run 87 octane? Ever tried 91? The compression ratio leads me to believe 87 is just fine, but the manua'ls little side note has me wondering...

I use 87 except I do put 91 in when on some longer trips....force of habit.

Just put 92 in today...it was awesome. I couldn't beleive the difference!!!

...it was like $10 more.

...As is the only difference was cost??? No noticeable performance increase?

No noticable increase in performance at all. The way I've always noticed it, is like this:

A car tuned for high octane performs poorly on lower octane fuel, however, a car tuned for lower octane fuel performs equally on high octane fuel.

The numbers may tell a different story, but the "feel" is what I am describing above.

Not sure if any of this makes any sense?

I have only noticed differences in fuel types when going with a lower grade then recommended by the manufacturer.

Never by going over what they say the minimum.....

and that was with my Acura.
