took off cover for the sending unit on my 88 62 to find the fuel pump not there fuel lines run to the top of the tank do i need to drop the gas tank i do not see any other covers back there anywhere. i suppose i just expected if you could take the fuel sending unit out by taking the cover off .the fuel pump would be right there to. first time owner of fj62 thanks for the future input:)

got some bad news for you. the tank has to be dropped to access the fuel pump.
just think of it as ggod time to assess the undercarriage rust while you're down there.

Bill

two other things, only buy the Toyota fuel pump (you won't want to do this job twice) and make sure you change out the pick-up filter while in there.

thanks for your reply figured as such took the beast in for transfer case work went t pick it up well it would not start but after a few checks no fuel from coming out of the line in the engine compartment think i should change out thefuel pressure regulater also i havent tested anything at the rail yet thanks again this is the best site ive been glued since i found it:cheers:

How the hell did you find a rust free in WV? I got my 89 here in Morgantown and it's got it's share of rust. Nice to see another WV cruiser post up.

I had a break in my wiring too.Toyo wanted like $400 for the wiring harness, so I took some advice off this site and just built my own. Mine was broken multiple times from the wheel well to the pump so I just rebuilt that section. It works fine now. My problem was also a bad EFI relay.

cool but i did not tye in the fuel pump to the fuel pump relay ask the parts store if it had one they said they did not show one. all my wiring is tyed to the fuse block directly on its own cir. to the fuse block is this ok will it burn up the pump or cause it not to run right. because it has a miss i just figured it was needing the new piece on the gas tank were the return line goes into the tank im losing pressure:cheers:

The fuel tanks on the FJ62s had a recall, at least the 89 did in which they replaced the tank. A dealer should be able tell you if this was already done by the VIN#. Again on the 89s the fuel gets power only when the ignition switch is turned to start. After starting there is a relay in the kick panel on the passinger's side (manual shows it on the fire wall). The relay works off a air sensor so that if the motor dies the fuel pump shuts off. I know when my pump went bad I jumped two pins in a plugin connection under the hood to check the pump without trying to start the engine.

What type of factory locker do you have, front or rear?

John

both front and rear lockers locker in the rear is not working wich im not to worried about anr the locker in the front just needs a cable which mine is gone:)

thanks living in the past the piece looks origanal but its been fixed once already so monday first thing i will call the dealer:D
