My fj62 is having trouble starting after I rolled it on its pass. side 3 weeks ago. This morning I started it for the first time since the roll. Before starting it, I changed oil, cleaned air intake/filter, checked plugs (looked okay), poured about 2gallons fresh gas in it b/c all had drained out. I thought everything looked/sounded okay when it started...

Then, I drove down to town to get some gas (about 5 miles). Removing the gas cap released a LARGE amount of pressure (more than usual). Next, I drove to a coffee shop. After sitting for about 10 minutes, I went to leave. The truck started up...then, backfired and died (it did this a couple time on the way to the coffee shop, but I was able to keep it going with a burst of throttle). I tried for a while to get it started, but eventually had to tow it home. Once home, I checked the fuel filter. When I loosened the line from the input side of filter, there was another LARGE release of pressure. Also, I sprayed a little carb cleaner in the throttle body and the motor 'tried' to start but did not actually fire, just missed a couple of times.

Does this sound like a faulty fuel pressure regulator? Seems like pressure is building up in the tank upto the regulator. The carb cleaner shows that it is getting spark, so I don't think its the EFI relay. Any ideas?

Fixed the problem today. I still had a little oil in the airflow meter causing the flap to get hung up. I sprayed it all out an made sure no oil was remaining, anywhere (oil had drained up threw airbox when it was on its side).

The airflow meter was telling the efi brain not to send fuel...i think. :flipoff2:

i have lots of oily deposits all throughout my intake. i did a gasket replacement and slight tune up two years ago, but it seems to be building up again. i think i have blownout piston rings, and some other seals or surfaces scratched or cracked, but what is the best/ most effective way to clean all this mess up, at least on the intake for now, without getting all the gunk that is going to come up from running through the engine. also it's a pain in the buttox to get that stuff clean. anyone know any tricks to get really gunked on residue off the air intake and throttle body, along with the intake manifold.
