Fuel filter for a '88 FJ62

I thought I'd try installing a new onw knowing it hasen't been changed in years. Went to the dealer only to discover they wanted very close to $50. Why so spendy and is there an alternative, for a hardcore stock guy.

WIX makes a good aftermarket FF for the 62, I think around $30

I would still go with Toyota. I got mine from American Toyota through cdan and I think it was $35.
