fuel cell change...

FYI

I removed the filler plate on my RCI cell tonight and found that the top gasket was deteriorated on the inside radius and chunks of rubber where in the tank.
This tank is less than 3 months old from JEGS and I have run less than 1 tank of gas. Not cool.

I think the pickup tube is 7/16? I could not get a 3/8" hose on it to install my pickup.

I am curious to hear on the quality of your gasket.

and, done....

cage work complete (thanks to RidderFabOffroad.com), cell in with three Walpro pickups in place with one layer of foam to keep them positioned, Corbeau 36" seat in place....

Seat is perfect for about 5'10" and under...I can sit there, but wouldn't wanna be there long....for Lexi (who's about 5'2 or so) it's perfect, and she'll have a good view of everything...

went with some aircraft-style lap belts for the seats, found on EBay.

and, the cage can STILL be removed if I choose for paint/repair/etc...

testing this weekend at the Chicago Toyota Jambo at the Cliffs...

few more pics...raised the rear suspension by about 3/4" as well, compensate for the cell relocation and weight change...

C-pillar and spreaders are all .120 1-3/4" DOM...seat mount is 1-1/2" .120 DOM...consistent with what the balance of the cage is made from :)

Walbro pickups are evenly spread across the floor of the fuel cell....used one with a single inlet (located far drivers side), one with inlets on each side (located in the center) and one with a side inlet and a top inlet....

The stock pickup tube for the cell was 1/2" alum....cut about 7" or so off with a tubing cutter, then did a 1/2" Parker compression fitting to a 90 degree 5/16" hose barb, and pointed that barb to the back passenger corner....hose curves from the barb, down the corner of the cell, and into the top of the first Walbro pickup....other two are simply connected in series across the bottom of the cell.

Then pulled two pieces of foam from my old cell and wedged those on top...fits tightly, so it should stay in place pretty well and keep the pickups in the proper orientation/position.

cell only has about 2" of fuel in the bottom right now, and it still runs, so apparently I don't have any air leaks yet :D

believe I went with the 13, 14, and 16 Walbro numbers, but can't recall for sure....I know one has a bleed tho :)

Little truck on a big trailer ;)

big trailer will have a 4.7 V8 FJ55 loaded once I hit Chicago tonite ;)

Sick. Family wheeler. I bet it would be terrifying for someone sitting back there in a rollover like the one at CMCC

Got a grab handle back there?

Any chance of the rear passenger pitching forward and hitting their head on the B pillar cross bars?

Gonna keep the back of the fuel cell open to the back?

Wanna help me pull that supercharged 4.7 out of the 55 tomorrow night?

"Gee, Eric. I don't know why it won't start."

zero chance of a head hitting the X-brace....even my head won't reach...

no grab handles yet...need to come up with something, will wait to see what Lexi or Heather reach for :)

fuel cell needs 'something' more to protect it, just not sure what yet...

no room for an engine hoist.... ;)

Woody ,so where did you hooked up the rear shocks?

if I recalled those things were sticking out out of the floor.

if you have any pictures that would help.

I am about to buy some rear shocks for my 40 and right now I am considering the stock location.

any ideas?

still thru the rear floor, just moved them back slightly, closer to the fuel cell...14" stroke Bilstein's...

can nab more pics tomorrow, took a couple hours to wash today after this past weekend's wheelin mess ;)

Raisin's looking "good" Woodro! Cargo space is so over rated anyhow! ;p;)
