Thinking about putting in for Ft. Drum on the top of my list for my next PCS. I hear a ton of bad things about it but I'm so FRIGG'N sick of the south and my particular bird isn't at Ft. Carson Colorado and not sure of the deployment cycle on Alaska right now. Not to mention we like the snow and the outdoor life.

How is the wheeling out there? Or is the other NY/MA/NH group that is on the board closer to that area?

Since you like snow and the outdoors, the Ft. Drum area would probably do you well. The area gets a lot of lake effect snow every year, and you're not too far from the Adirondacks. There is basically no (ZERO) legal wheeling in NYS. There may be some unimproved seasonal roads in the area, but they'd most likely be nothing to write home about. If you take a short-ish drive to PA or NH, there's some great wheeling opportunities.

I'm a few hours south-west of Ft. Drum.

That is what I was afraid of. PA and NH aren't exactly close. When you have to drive over 4 hours to get somewhere it really takes the spontenatiy out of a quick weekend or day trip. And in a 12 MPG Land Cruiser it isn't always cheap either.

I'm hoping there is a few places on post that are accessable.

Thank you for the update. How about Canada? It is a hell of a lot closer.

There are a couple of places that are within an hour of Albany, one is a good friend of GCLCNY and the other is accessible through the rok-freekz.com forums.

I will have to remember this if I end up that way. If end up stationed there my feet will hit the ground about the same time the snow really starts falling. Will make for a nice welcome I'm sure.
