Edit 26th November 2008: ENGINE SOLD. Gearbox & transfer still available

Dry compression numbers:
Cyl 1 360 psi
Cyl 2 360 psi
Cyl 3 340 psi
Cyl 4 360 psi

(I have reason to suspect these readings might be a little low. I will be checking my compression tester)

Oil pressure: approx. 20 psi @ idle and 55 psi under load.

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Included: Engine, transmission, transfer + parts transfer case; and pretty much everything else bolted to them within reason except for the truck of course... Does not include harness or anything on the truck side of harness. If you are unsure of what comes with it, ask. Additional parts possibly available and negotiable.

Shipping: I will work with the buyer to arrange pick-up or shipping and crating as necessary at the buyer's cost. I am going to suggest Western Crating and Day & Ross for shipping. Both companies have very reasonable pricing and I have worked with both.

Availability: Now till it's gone.

Price: CAD 1800 which is about USD 1450 at the present exchange rate. Shipping & crating not included.

Reason for sale: Funds needed to pay for new-to-me engine for my "Alaska" truck project, from which this engine came.

What I do know, to be fair, is that this engine is not the original engine from my '79 BJ40. The original B was replaced by the PO and I was informed that this engine had 180,000 km on it when I bought the truck. It now has approximately 210,000 km. I have never sumped it. I have changed the synthetic oil (Delo 400) regularly. It did smoke (rich black diesel smoke) a little under hard acceleration but I have never had the urge to tweak the fuel settings (maybe too rich for this altitude) yet it did not smoke under normal driving conditions. It did not burn excessive amounts of oil at all. The 4 speed is in good working condition. The transfer case has a small crack in the casing and is occasionally stiff to get between 4L & 4H and vice versa but fully functional. I have a spare transfer case case with some internals that I'll throw in. I had intended to swap the internals at some point.

This engine never let me down. I am not aware of any other issues other than those mentioned. The engine combo is in the truck, minus most of body and harness. Sale As is, Where is.

Contact: via this thread or email. No PM. I will endevour to check the thread and my email once daily.

Would you be open to an offer of $1,000 USD + S/H for the engine alone? Any pics?

Hi Chang-kuao-lo,

Thanks for your interest. I'm going to need a little more than that if I'm going to break the combination. I believe I have a better chance at getting rid of all parts when combined but I can be pretty reasonable.

I'll go take some pictures today. Look for them in this thread.

Regards,
Jim

Compression numbers

Edit 26th November 2008: ENGINE SOLD. Gearbox & transfer still available

Dry compression numbers:
Cyl 1 360 psi
Cyl 2 360 psi
Cyl 3 340 psi
Cyl 4 360 psi

(I have reason to suspect these readings might be a little low. I will be checking my compression tester)Jim

As suspected, I used a different compression tester today to measure the compression of my other truck for sale and in doing a direct comparison, it turns out the numbers above are about 20 psi and maybe 30 psi too low. So, the above numbers should be:

Cyl 1 380 psi
Cyl 2 380 psi
Cyl 3 360 psi
Cyl 4 380 psi

A bit better and I think this is a pretty good engine. It is now however SOLD.

Regards
Jim
