Hi I just pick up a one barrel big window carb. The throttle shaft is frozen, right now I have it soaking in Seafoam. What else should I be doing?

I soaked mine in kerosene for a few weeks and it worked fine. Give the shaft a few taps with a soft mallet once in a while.

If you have acess to an ultrasonic cleaner then fill it with PB blaster or some other similar oil and turn it on. It will reduce the soak time by days. I renewed the life in my hand throttle and choke cables in about 30 minutes time.

good luck. I have one that's still frozen.

Thanks guy's I will try your sugestions, and let you know how it turns out. The beauty with getting old is I've learned to take my time.

Oh where can a guy get a rebuild kit for one of these?

I do have another question, why are some of the backgrounds in the site glass blue and others are not?

The blue is a plate behind the glass. The others you see are missing the plate. Someone on Mud is working on making repos of the plate.

Toyota still sells them. not sure what the part number is but you can find it by doing a search, that is how I found mine. Or you can buy one from SOR, I believe they are made my Keyster?

An antique car buff showed me to boil parts that will fit in a pot in a vinegar, salt and water solution. It heats the parts without distorting them. While still hot submerse in kerosene or diesel feul. He claimed that as it cooled it would draw the oil into the creavases. I have had very good luck cleaning heater cores by boiling in the mixture.

Somewhere there is a thread for just this type of information but I forgot to save it to my favorites.

I had a friend that would heat parts (not biol) in a pot of ATF. It withstands heat well and is a high detergent. It worked well also.

Well I think I have soaked it long enough I'm going to see if it's free. Wish me luck. :hmm:

Success, she is free at last. A little BP Plaster and she freed right up. I guess soaking it for 4 years helps. Now I need to find a rebuild kit. Do you guys think Toyota still carries them?

Hogan, I sent you a pm
