My front r&p gave out while along at 15mph on a paved road. Locker was not engaged nor was the CDL. I was just cruising along on my way to the Starbucks in Williams, AZ. The diff had about 60k on it since the re-gear and ARB install. The diff is being rebuilt and hopefully I can log some miles on it before i depart for Cruise Moab. Why in the would would it give out like that?

Pics sent from the dealership.

Thank you for the Pics. Its really hard to tell, but the contact patch looks like its at the outer edge of the ring gear. The contact should be in the center of the ring gear tooth not at the edge. i also see contact with the pinion to the ARB case. I am thinking that the pinion bearings failed and the pinion gear moved forward and back and contacted the case and put all the load on the edge of the teeth of the ring gear or the set up on the ring and pinion was way off from the start and the gears failed from improper contact. Changing ratios really requires some shim work during the diff set up to get the contact patch right. Make sure the tech looks at the contact patch on the ring and pinion before it goes back together. Hope the rear is ok....Bill

What gear set grenaded? Who set it up?

Thanks Bill. I'll pass this on. My rear pinion bearing went out last month and I had it replaced. It developed a noticeable noise but I didn't notice any abnormality with the front before it went.

Nitro gear set. It's been in since the PO installed at 50k. She's worked fine for the last 60k
