Hey all - been away for a bit, back to wrenching on the 83 FJ60. Been driving her a few weeks not too far just 200 miles total or so. Seeing if and or what will break/leak etc. Engine is rock solid my heart felt thanks to all who helped me resurect this ol gal!!! I am now looking at 3 regular leak/drips. One appears to be at the oil pan drain bolt. I remeber there is not much of a washer on there so I probably should get a thicker compression type for that. The second appears to be identical to one I already fixed. I replaced the rear pinion seal with no complications and the rear diff doesn't leak a drop. On the front end of the same drive shaft is a similar setup. From around the collar which spins with the shaft there is oil being flung as the shaft spins. Is there another pinion seal forward of the universal here? If so, anything I should know before replacing that one? 150k on the engine and she sat for 3 years before I got her.
My last (for now) drip issue appears to be a rear main. Tightend the pan bolts twice already and there is still a steady slow drip from this area I have not exactly pinpointed it yet. Any one have any luck with the various rear main seal leak stoppers on 2F engines? (Lucar, Bar, or White Sheppard are the products which have caught my attention as a finger in the dyke fix for now).
I am amazed at how much fun this thing is to drive for an ol schooler like me. Gonna be hard to sell it once I have confidence I ain't pushing an alblatross off on a another human. Thanks again for all this boards help. If the economy was different I would keep the rig and drive it until it dies a worthy death in the mountains of northwestern wyoming. No place for a man like me in an Obamanation.
