Am I the only guy with this trouble???? I have a 1990 standard cab pick up. 3.0 V6 5 speed chain drive T-case. Its just my work truck. I put a SAS on it and everything is fine except for the front driveline. The double CV that was on it ( IFS ) does NOT have the angle to reach the front end. There is no other single joint that will bolt up to the flange. Cant use a triple drill cause they dont make them for the chain drive T-case. The rear ( rear driveline ) single joint wont match up to the front flange. So if you had or know some one that had this proble how was it fixed? Any info whould be cool!! Thanks

I think the problem is your front driveshaft itself.
It looks like you're running the IFS front DS, which, in all honesty, really doesn't flex in its functional life because the diff never moves.
My suggestion is to get down to your local driveline shop, and have them make you one that fits your SAS setup.
 
Yeah, its a double CV with no angle, so im looking at drilling out the flange to match up with a single joint from a rear drive line. I just figured their was someone out there that had gone through this before.
 
I have done this tons of times.

Ditch that stock CV.

If you want to run a CV shaft then get one out of the front of a 84-85 truck. Or the rear of an extra cab with a two piece shaft with a CV. Or the rear of 96 up 4runners.

Or just run rear non CV like you have been playing with, and just drill out the flange to fit the new holes.

Toy shafts are hubcentric meaning they rely on a machined lip to center the shaft instead of using the bolt holes to true it all up. That means even if you drill some sloppy holes it will still work just fine.

put the shaft up and clamp two ears on with two visegrips. Then use the two open holes as a drill guide and transfer the two holes to the flange. Then put two bolts in the new holes and remove the visegrips and drill the other two holes. DONE.
 
Doesnt you truck have studs on the front flange instead of bolts?

I have used cv shafts on those v6 flanges with studs and the pattern is still a little off. I just drilled out the ears one size and it snuggly fits over the studs.


But a noncv shaft is the best route. A CV is missused in a SAS unless you have the front axle cut and turned so the pinion points right at the tcase output flange.
 
Yes my flange is a bolts. And yes an early 1 gen almost fits the studs. I didnt drill it because the metal is thin on the edge of the holes. I found the exact T case I have for $80 I thought I would pull the flange re drill it to the most common single joint out there so parts are easy to re-place. They dont make a triple drill flange for a "chain drive" T case. Thats why I thought I would fab my own flange. I already have a drive line that is long enough and bolts up to my 85 front front end. Its just the T-case side that is having all this trouble
 
Drilled Flange

I just found a stock flange ( chain drive T case ) and drilled it out to fit the single joint end. So far its working out perfect. I should be done with it in a couple days.
 
I had this same prob with my buddies AT SAS job. There are articles on the web on how to take the CV apart and clearance it so it will flex. A hammer some grinding and that DS will get over twice the angle it did before.
 
Please continue to drill out your flange to accept a NON CV style rear shaft in the front of your SASed rig.

In order to use a CV in its proper form in the front of your truck it would need to have the axle/knuckles cut and turned to allow the pinion to point at the tcase output like it did in stock form.


If your rig has angle on the lower joint then a CV is the wrong application.
