Brought my front drivesahft from my 88FJ62 to a local shop to replace the CV joint and to check its balence. The vehilce has 220,000 miles on it and the typical front vibration when in 4wd. They said the slip joint had to much play to balence it and it would be 500$ to rebuild it with some GM adapter. I dont want some GM adaptor and I know I can by a LC used one for far less $ but what is a typical cost for a rebuild?

Thanks!

i have a 60...I was quoted $200 front and rear. The u-joints are $38ea....$58 from toyota. cv joints I imagine would be a bit more expensive I imagine

used

Find a used one $50 to $200. just depends on how lucky you are and how fast you need it. I found a used one in PA for my 60 for $50. I had it extended and balanced for $50. I dont think you can get a cv only form toyota, may be wrong but I think your only option is used or the GM conversion.

Dunno how AK economics work, but mine were under $100 apiece, back the next day.

100-200 balanced and joints. Slip yoke only would be around 125.00. I used a local heavy diesel supplier that builds shafts for diesels.

That is high. I would find a good driveshaft shop in the Seattle area and ship it down to them. It would be cheaper and probably a better job.

$500 is off the charts high. You would be better off shipping it to somebody like Tom Woods Drivelines or somebody else that advertizes in the off-road publications. I have been using Six States driveline shop in Salt Lake City for years. It will cost you less than half of what you have been quoted for some Spicer hardware and they might even have used Toyota stuff hanging around, I know they have all my old hardware.

There is a junk yard in wasilla that has a few cruisers and shafts too. You can pick up a shaft there for $90 and have it balanced at Jones driveline in wasilla for 50 bucks. 907 373-7288 is their number. I'm not from wasilla but have gone up there from cooper landing to that junk yard for many parts. it is somewhere off the coastal road. I have used the jones driveline shop before for some extention work for my SOA. Good guys.
Hope this helps

Tom Woods 1310 CV drive shaft with all new parts for mine was $385 with life time warranty.

Thanks for all the input guys! Alaska60 appreciate the local lead, i'll check them out and waht they have. If I cant find anything locally then I will go out of state but was hoping to avoid that as it means more down time for the cruiser!
