I have a 2004 LC and the drivers side front door speaker is popping, which means it's blown. I know it's a 6 1/2, 2 way, the dealership in Austin wants $419 for just one speaker and that does not include install, WTF? I asked the parts guy how he even quotes that price without laughing? Are there any speakers at Best Buy that will just bolt right in without a bunch of modifications? I am a pretty good mechanic but not to great at electrical and stereo stuff.

Thanks in advance

I used some regular Sony ones that are NOT shallow mount, all you need to do is use the plastic frame that makes up the genuine ones, cut out the speaker part with a knife and mount the new speakers to the plastic outside frame. Very easy only took about 30mins to change the front pair. If you take the door trim
Off you will see what I mean about the frame and how easy it really is. Gives you lots more options with your speaker choice I even fit the focal v1 which are huge in the old mans 100 with no issues.

I was telling him he needed shallow mount to do it without any modification :)

Yes, don't want to do any cutting, spacers, bla bla bla. it's a Toyota front speaker you think they would make something that would just fit?????

So you would think, though $400 will get you great speakers for all 4 corners plus, probably, the subwoofer.

I did some measurements when I had the DS front panel off to fix the window regulator...anything deeper than approximately 1-3/8" would cause interference with the window when it's rolled down if a spacer is not used.

I get it. But not restricting yourself to shallow mount gives a lot more options.

Using an old dead speakers front ring is a box cutting knife procedure and it's a perfect spacer.
