After getting my pads changed at Toyota, I noticed that the two "dot" things on the front of the caliper which you can pull out and push in start to slowly pop out after each ride...they are directly on the side of the caliper visible from just looking at your caliper....what exactly do these do and is this dangerous?

I guess nobody here knows what the these things do? Nobody has changed their brakes?

The FJ's only been available for 2 years so not too many brakes being changed out yet I guess. I know a few folks have changed them out over on the blue site.

I have done hundreds of Toyota brake jobs, never on a FJC, but have had the wheels off and looked at them, pretty much standard Toyota brakes. But have no idea what "the two "dot" things" are, maybe try to be a little more descriptive or a pic may help if you don't know what the parts are called?

My guess is Toyota did the job correctly and there is no issue.:hillbilly:

If you look on the front of the caliper there are two "dot" looking things. I checked them today by turning the wheel and got under the car. Apparently they are a rod that goes through the top and bottom of the caliper and holds the brake pad in. The looseness is because of a CLIP that holds them in place (behind the caliper is the clip) so that explains why mine had some play...so no worries. I believe you take these two rods out to pop the pads out.

Don't know if it is related, but there was a TSB released about faulty front breaks. They will replace them if your truck was produced before a certain date. Just call them up and tell them your production date and see if you need replacements.

Does noone read the last reply before replying? O.o, no offense..but come on.

I was just letting you know about the TSB. Anyone ever tell you that you're a dick?

Sorry for pointing out that most people don't take the time to read the entire thread before replying. I said "no offense" but my point is valid...I'd already found out that it's normal and typed it up.

I agree Toledo. Nohandlebars seems to start some Sh*t in just about every thread he gets into. I wonder what he does for a living?

Clearly all I do is sit in front of my computer and eat popcorn.
