Has anyone replaced their front pads yet? I'm going to change mine soon (45,000 miles). Is it pretty much straight forward or do I need any tips, specs, special tools? Any guidance would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dan

There is a TSB out for the front brakes from Toyota. #BR8005. Just call your service dept and tell them your brakes squeel in reverse all the time and they should replace your pads and rotors free of charge.

Just be sure to watch your ABS sensor wires don't get yanked out. Make a hanger for the caliper out of some scrap coat hanger wire and suspend the caliper from the upper A-arm while you are working on the pads.

Thanks for the tips. Will I need a certain size hub socket to get the rotors off to be turned?

Go for the FREE BJ!!

Just tell your dealer that the brakes have been squealing everytime you back up in colder weather after starting since the truck was new.

They should honor the TSB and replace rotors & pads with NEW parts.

Viola-New brake job-updated rotors.

Thanks again for the tip on the free brake job. However there's a couple of things wrong with that. First, I have not had any problems with my brakes, and second, I'm out of warranty.

IIRC the hub nut is 35mm. Will check my tool box and get back to you.

[EDIT] it is 35mm for the hub nut. Just get a cheap impact socket at Harbor Freight, since you won't be using that socket evry day.

It's a TSB-They should "good will it"!
And just TRY backing up on a cold, WET morning...I' bet they'll squeal~!

Then again-If you want to be SURE it's done right...!

there is no need to pull the hub nut to get the rotor off.
there is no need to pull the caliper, if you are just doing brakepads.
