One of my vendors is going to put a 350 engine and trans into his 1977 FJ40. He told me he is looking to give away the existing motor and trans assy to whoever can pull it from the vehicle. Some details: When he bought the 40, the previous owner told him the motor hadnt been run in a while but needed a water pump (which is missing). The engine comes with a holley carb and a header also.. also includes the 3 spd trans. He can tow the 40 to your place and tow it out when you are done as part of the deal. No cost to you. Being that he never worked on the engine he cannot vouch for its condition for sure - based only what the previous owner told him. The vehicle has been sitting for a while.

I told him before he puts on craigslist to let me send out feelers in the CSC group in case someone needs it and help a fellow Mudder out.

His name is Henry and you can call him 623-434-1727. Ive known him for years and is a good guy.

I'd be interested, but with my schedual, it wouldn't be a speedy thing. Plus I'd doupt he be willing the haul it to Oracle.:meh:

That is, if it has a 2F..

When does the guy want it done? My place is in far east Mesa. Maybe he could haul it out here and Split could drive up from Oracle to do the deed at my place and haul it home. Ive got the tools and hoist to get it done but I need about 2 weekends worth of cleaning and organizing in the garage before I can tackle it. I'm willing to help if you want to come up. I'm sure we can have it yanked in a couple hours. I would however suggest that we start at like 6 am on scheduled Saturday morning to beat the heat.

There is an idea, works for me. Just need to plan on a sat or sun in advance..Thanks for the offer..

Murf, sure that's not a 4 speed? 3 speeds were used up to '73, '74 and later 40's had 4 speeds..

If it is a 3 speed, sounds like the PO did a swap with an earlier engine/trans..I just don't want to have another F engine layng around.. A 2F I could put to use..

He told me a 3 spd but he wasnt sure - I was also thinking it might be a 4 spd due to the year... Best way is to probably go check it out beforehand. Give Henry a call and see when he could meet you.

I talked to him, to busy to give me any details. He's going to call me back later this eve or in the morning. I did get this rig came out of Equador, and has been sitting for some time (25 years~). Depending on where it's at, anyone willing to go check it out and see if it is a 2F and a h41 or 42?

Otherwise I can tell him where the SN is on the block and go from there.

Murf, thanks for the lead, even if it doesn't pan out. I've got a piggy in the near future, and this would fit nicely..

Still haven't heard back from him, sounds like he's in the towing biz, probably really busy with the clunker program right now.:meh: If you hear from him, tell him I'm still intersested to figure out what he has and if it's something I can use..He's got my #. Maybe JackA got in on it, if he did at least it found a good home.
Thanks again..

The guy is always busy being in business for himself. I would call him again and see whats up.

I think he has so many irons in the fire, you just need to keep it in front of him. Good luck ~ hope it works out.

If I see him next week Ill mention that some Mudders are willing and able!

I never called about this as it sounded like others were more interested. I could still pull the engine, but if the guys as busy as stated, it may be more hassle then it's worth. I'll just wait and see how it plays out.

He's got his hands full, one of his tow rigs is down..I'll be getting a call when things settle down, (hopefully I can find out if he's got a boat anchor or a 2F). Doesn't sound like he's in any great rush..

BMAN, if the offer still stands, how much (comfortable) lead time will you need?

Jack, if by some means, I can't make this happen, It's all yours. (Don't want to step on any toes here)..

Edit: BMAN if your doing the :bang: right now...No sweat..:D

I'll just talk him into hauling it to my place..

if he can haul it to your place that's killer! If not I'd not be able to do it until the 16th or the weekend of the 22nd-23rd. The 15th is shot for a memorial service and I'd need this weekend to straighten up enough to host a wrenchathon. LMK if you wanna do it here.
