I'm new to the forums, but thought I'd relay this as I wasted a day pursuing this 2006 FJ100 on Autotrader. The fraudster is "Jennifer Wright", out of "San Bruno, CA." The 100 was an excellent price -- a little too.

They wanted to work through Amazon Payments - a service which doesn't accept payments for cars to begin with. When I (mockingly) asked to see the truck, their response was that they still haven't received any payment and they'll hold the truck for one more day.

:flipoff2:

The cherry on top was that the truck "is now located in Augusta, Maine."

Onward with the 100 search!

I think I dealt with the same posse. My chase lasted about 30 minutes.

The line I got was she was freshly divorced and she just wanted the car gone, when I asked if my friend who lived near her could see the truck things got real. Lol.

I immediately reported to eBay and the listing disappeared in less than an hour.

LOLOL. Things got real. Oh for videocam feeds of these idiots.

The best I can say is her good emails would pass 5th grade english.

Just reported to AT, so Jennifer's minutes are numbered.

This type of scam's days must be numbered...

The scammers can't try to sell any kind of vehicle that has an enthusiast following (like Land Cruisers) because they are basically exposing themselves to thousands of detectives familiar with the script...

Similar story - a few years ago I looked at a 100 online in Augusta Maine, then it moved around to other cities on auto trader. They sent me a payment request for a fake escrow company in response to my questions. Red flag! But they had a real phone number that went to voicemail etc. so it looked almost legit. When I got the call that afternoon from the FBI investigating it an the escrow company, I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to send the payment.

Trapper50: I agree, cruiser heads being what they are, with help from this forum etc....tough sledding.

bcarney: You can't be serious, Augusta, Maine. This borders on comedy. WTF.
