I have found a shop that will sandblast my My Frame/Chassis, the body will not be removed from the Frame. I am curious if anyone has any suggestions for me on treating the underside after sandblasting.

My tentative plan is to have it sandblasted and then promptly transported to another shop and have the underside recieve a rubberized coating. I live in wyoming and vehicle will stay in wyoming 99% of the time. We only use sand to treat our roads here in the winter. My Tacoma is a 2001 with about 289k miles on the clock.

My plan is to start with the frame and address any potential issues there and then move into the Engine/Transmission Systems next. Hopefully move along the path a poor mans restoration.

I would not do rubberized under coating. Its a moisture trap. Some use POR15. I use John Deer chassis black or Rustoleum satin from HD…rattle can (pic)

That my concern as well, I have some pictures of previous vehicles they have sandblasted while the body is on and they are quite impressive really. Does the John Deer come in a rattle can or just the Rustoleum

I like Eastwood rust encapsulator and then top with their chassis black.

Specific for this application and cheaper and easier than por15.

Good luck.

John

I cleaned, primed my Tacoma frame with Rustoleum Farm Implement paint on my 1999 Tacoma. It produces a hard surface that stands up to gravel. I used a wire wheel with some sand blasting in cracks and crevices to clean everything.

Decided to go the following route, trying to get a hold of Mastercoat, which is proving difficult. Once I have all necessary materials, will have go in for sandblasting and treat with Mastercoat Chassis Kit. Probably won't happen until the spring so I can make sure the ambient temperature is good. Will post pictures of project once it get started.
