I think I found my solution for water storage. WalMart has some 7 gallon square water tanks for 8 bucks each made out of plastic. I am going to get three of them and connect them together with some type of plumming to put up under the bottom of the trailer behind the axle. Should work for what i need and they can be removed if necessary.

Sounds thrifty! Post up pics as you get them going man. My only concern would be smacking them into rocks or getting so much road/trail grime that they would some how get contaminated.

Sounds like a cool idea though. I can't wait to see how this works out... it sure is nicely priced!

I was thinking about some type of cage around it to keep it clean of grime. I am still consdering if I jsut want to put in on top of the trailer right above the axle.

I'll take a pic this evening and post it up.

Here is the picture that I said I would send. I figure three of them would work out. What I like about them is that they are portable. I need to buy two more soon.

You best have some weight in the front of the trailer or its going to pull kinda squirly with 160#'s loaded under the rear. Don't ask me how I know.

I would try to get these mounted in front of the axle if at all possible.

I have 2 5 gallon gas cans in the front of the trailer so it would balance (hopefully) After thought, I'll probably have them dead center on the axil or a hair forward. I have enjoyed a trailer with too much weight in back comming down a steep grade in my CJ5. Yeah tell me about it. I never got the stain out of my seat.

these are pretty big and not very heavy-duty, it better be a very tall trailer... :)

I think it's going to be difficult to keep those tanks sanitary if they are permanently mounted under the trailer. It's very important that you can drain them completely and let them dry out, and also be able to flush them out. If you let water stand in them off-season they will get NASTY very quickly. At the very least, install some drain plugs, or better yet, a large diameter drain manifold with all three tanks going to a common drain port. That will tie the tanks together so you don't need any other connections, other than the supply outlet at the lowest spot.

I think those tanks are too thin for what you want. You would be better served getting something a little more durable in my opinion.

What is the purpose of all that water? Do you have a shower to run off it?

As for cleaning the tanks, in the military before deployments we would fill the water buffalos with tap water and then dump a few gallons of cloeox in there to kill all the goop. Tasted like hell, but it was the "regulation" way to do it :D

Good points all around. I plan on having them removable. They will have their own storage box that holds all three on the bed of the trailer. I will use one at a time for gravity fed plumbing for a little sink in a kitchen with a little faucet. They are light duty, but I can also put one up in a tree or hang it off my little light bar for a warm shower in the summer if I want to get creative (wrap a black garbage bag around one for better heat absorbing or just spray them black)

I misunderstood, sorry, read the post too quickly, I thought you were talking about putting these under the bed... (seen weirder things... :) )
