Hi,

I just did the timing belt and water pump yesterday and the youtube video I was following did not mention anything about putting loctite or FIPG on the tensioner pulley allen bolt. I was watching the Timmy Toolman vids and he indicated that the FSM requires this because the bolt goes through into the oil pump and can leak if not sealed properly. I have not put the drive belt, fan clutch or radiator back in yet. Is there an easy way to remove the cover, lock the belt in place, loosen the tensioner and remove the bolt to apply sealant without removing everything else, or do I have to disassemble everything again. OR do I leave it and hope/wait for oil to leak and fix it later.

Thanks in advance.

lol... RTFM, dude. It's the only irrefutable, definitive source of tech data on these things and using one is the only sure way to do it right the first time. Otherwise, you'll just be where you are now.

Also, no damn idea what engine you're working on. Good luck with the project!

Well, do you want to do the whole thing over again down the road when it leaks, or just half of the job again now and not worry about it later? Kinda seems obvious which direction to go...

For sure, just asking the masses if anyone has shortcut the removal of the bolt instead of full belt disassembly. If there's a way to do it safely, if not all good doing the full job.

I probably do 1 t belt job a week on 2uz engines . have not put anything on that bolt since 1990 when we started with the 1uz , just send it
