Question all:

I can get a really good deal on a 2wd F250 with a 6.9L rebuilt diesel. I was thinking of throwing this into my 60.

Question is as follows, the tranny is a 2wd T19. Novak sells an adapter to go to a few tcases as well as Advance Adapters. I see a few options to make this work:
  1. Use a Novak adapter ($500) to mate the T19 tranny to a D300 transfer case ($300-400). Use a ford 9" centered rear axle. Problems with strength for light to mild wheeling?
  2. Use a divorced NP205 ($300) and run to a ford 9" centered.
  3. Buy a Chevy SM465/NP205 combo ($500), redrill the bellhousing to match the Ford. run a ford 9" centered. Is this possible? Read it was.
  4. Buy an adapter from AA ($615) to go from a T19 to a 16 spline TLC t-case. Add a t-case saver and get the same strength as my split case?
Obviously the biggest question with a manual tranny is will the shifter come through the floor anywhere close enough? I don't know the length of the 6.9l engine.

The tranny shifter location is the smallest issue in your build.

You are stuck on a manual?

All of your options will leave a pretty high low range ratio (numericaly small) with the exception of swapping out the parts in the D300.

With the diesel's grunt, you might want to use a beefy tcase.

You confused me with that one! :p

It should be similar to BBC swap (size and location wise). With the 465 you'd have to bend the shifter to clear the heater.

If you confident that you can mate the 465 to the 6.9, then definately go that direction. You need something that can handle more torque and the 16 splince case is not it.

If the engine can fit between the frame & you can get the exhaust to clear than it should not be too difficult.

Meaning your low range will suck..

Most likely the T19 is a T19A and only had a 4.02:1 first gear ratio..

Mix that with a 205 (1.96:1) and the stock 3.70:1 diff ratio and that gives you a whopping 29:1 low range ratio.

weak..

the other side of the coin is that with the diesels low end grunt it shouldnt realy need a killer crawl ration to crawl will it? tire size and if its going to have to go 60MPH down the highway should also come into play...making any sense here?

Thanks all

Thanks all for the replies... was out of town for a few days.

Yeah, the T19A would have the 4.02:1 ratio in first gear.

What about using a divorced 19 spline split transfer case? That way, it is make one adapter (not an issue as I have access to a machine shop) and keep the rear axle.

Not looking for a super crawler...
