Well, got the Sheldon home today. If I ever move from this house I'm PAYING someone to move the lathe. Either that or I'm leaving it behind!

I just bought a new Wilton 14x40 a few months ago as well as a new Grizzly 6 x26 knee mill. The Wilton is a very good quality Taiwan lathe but the mill is Chinese. You can really see a difference so if you can buy the Taiwan stuff or if you really have money then one of the lathes mentioned above. I paid $3700 for the Wilton which was a bargain otherwise I probably would have bought a good used American lathe. I love building things and have slowly been building a small machine shop for myself over the years. The only bad thing is the tooling for the lathes and mills are expensive so don't buy some oddball set-up becuase it could cost you big bucks in the long run. Here is an awsome place for info-

HONK- that's a beautiful lathe you have there.

Yep, tooling can be expensive............for mills, get something that uses R8 collets.

For a lathe, 5C collets are widely available and have all sorts of neat things to go with it.

n26666s, thanks. waiting to get a machinist level in the mail to go through the leveling process, wire in the 5hp rotary phase converter and start making some chips. doesn't matter right now what, just something that will make chips. :)
