I bought an FJ62 the other day and it does not have a radio. I am hoping to install one soon, but there is quite a tangle of wires under the dash. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is? I hope that some of it may be OEM, but it looks like some other crap has been added. I need to figure out what is what. Any help would be appreciated. I am thinking that some of this is for an XM receiver, but do you guys see a factory connector anywhere? I come from the FJ60 world, so this is not too familiar.

wiring mess

I have tackLd a few radios, and it is always easier then I made it out to be. A is a radio harness. one should be for connection to the antennae. you will know because the radios are labled such and only one will fit. can you follow the wires to see where they lead? maybe he left you a satellite box under the dash?

D is a Kenwood multi-disc changer cable. They are also used for the Ipod interface adapter. Might trace it and see where it goes.....

The Scion radios are a plug-n-play swap. I did the same w/ our '62 and it made a great improvement over the OEM radio.
The only problem that I see for you is that you may not have the OEM "Cruiser" mounting brackets. I had to swap the mounting brackets from the sides of the Scion radio w/ the brackets off the Cruiser OEM radio. The Scion brackets were the wrong angle. Don't know if you can find the correct angle brackets locally or have to order them.

Good luck!

Thanks...I do have what appear to be the OEM brackets in there. We'll find out as soon as the Scion radio gets here and I start this install...

I don't think we are talking about the same brackets. There is some bracing in the hole where the radio fits. Then there are some right angle plates that mount onto the side of the radio the hold the radio to the bracing in the hole. It is these "plates" that attached to the radio that I am trying to describe. I'll see if I can find a picture of the original plates.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the little side brackets are the least of your worries. You will have to make some severe modifications to your dash and the radio faceplate if you want it to fit in there. It is a nice radio tho.

Alpine SPS 500 4 1/2" will fit, you will need to drill two (maybe three holes) because the holes there are either 5 and these speakers need 4 or the stock is 3 but either way, the speaker grill and trim covers the existing holes (as well as your new holes). A little pricy but look on Ebay and there are a few deals there for these speakers from time to time. Also, I think your stock size is actually 5" diameter but the 4 1/2's will work.

What speakers are you guys using in your 60/62s? Is there a good size that will fit with the existing screw holes in the door? The PO also removed the speakers from this rig...

Sorry, just realized you have a 62, I am unsure if the doors are the same as the 60, if so, then my info is correct, but I have never owned a 62 so I can't honestly tell you for sure.

The Scion unit? Antenna plugs right into the back along with everything else Carson. It's really Plug n Play including the side brackets that holds it in place. There is some trimming needed though, some people trim the Scion faceplate, other (myself included) trim the dash itself. I'm very happy with mine, I believe I have Alpine speakers and really enjoy playing the iPod through it.

Thanks, Chris. Yes, I am referring to the Scion unit. Does the single harness connector (labeled "A" in the pic) have the antenna plug in it? I just don't want to get it all installed and realize that I left something unplugged. I just wondered if one of those other wires might be for the antenna.
