I've got a mystery leak back center PS of engine. It's not engine oil or differential oil. Both those are readily identifiable. It doesn't have that slimy, oily feel to it and it doesn't smell like rotten eggs (diff oil). At first it looked like it may have a redish tinge to it, but now I'm not sure. Based on some research in the 80's section I thought it might be the heater control valve or associated hoses at the back top of the engine. Did a closer inspection of those this past weekend and I don't see anything. No crusty dried up coolant at any of the hose ends, etc.

It looks like it might be brake fluid?? There are two gray hard lines just above the PS of the oil pan. They are damp with what appears to be the same fluid that's on the driveway. Are those brake lines? Need to take a look under the brake fluid reservoir and try to trace those lines further, but figure I'd ask. The reservoir is not low.

Power steering would be up closer to the front of the engine wouldn't it? Are those what the two gray hard lines are carrying Joey?

Those hard lines that are attached to the frame go to the radiator and are the trans cooler lines. But, if the power steering reservoir hoses are leaking they will drip onto those lines as you are driving.

The p/s hoses going to the res. are both low pressure and fairly easy to replace, just clamps. The problem is finding the correct size and type hose.

In my post, PS is passenger side, not power steering. ;) I had a power steering hose replaced several years ago with just regular high pressure hose as Toyota in it's infinite wisdom doesn't sell just the hose! Cdan recommended a hose off a Previa that is very similar to the 80, but the shop chose not to use it, so it could be that failing. I'll have a look this weekend if it's not raining!

Hahaha, sorry. Those are brake lines :p

I have some Aeroquip hose that I used if you need some of the reservoir hose for the power steering.

Thx! Now that I know what lines they are, I can trace them back and see if I can find the source. I know from searching the 80's section that a few guys have replaced those hard lines. I'm hoping it's just a loose fitting somewhere!

Well ever since this post it hasn't leaked any more. Drove her to work today to see if it's start again so will check again in the morning.

OCD is kicking in here - need intervention help!

Still absolutely no more leaking after quite a bit of driving her last week.

Brent, I know you probably ruled this out already but could it be condensation from the AC?

No but doubt it would be. When I cleaned the condenser years ago the discharge from the air conditioning was further back and toward the PS of the truck. This was dead center above PS of the oil pan.
