Bitterly cold (well, for Virginia) but I need to replace the oil in the gearbox and t-case.

Can someone give me some pre-work info on where to locate the fill plugs?
Any special tools needed?

H55 in BJ74.

Thanks.

You will need a 24mm 6 point socket.

The H55F fill plug is on the LH side of the transmission, about half way up and towards the rear. The drain plug will be towards the rear on the bottom.

The transfer case fill plug will be on the LH side about 1/3 of the way up looking back at the transfer case from the rear of the truck. The skid plate will have a hole where the drain plug is a the rear of the transfer case on the bottom.

:)

The transmission will have metal crush gaskets on each plug. (12157-10010)

The transfer case will have aluminum crush gaskets on each plug (90430-A0003)

Awesome!
Thanks Onur!

I know this is an old thread but I'm very confused. I have a drum e-brake right behind the t-case (in 3rd pic in black) and need to open it up to see what's going on with my e-brake, so I read in ih8mud that I need to drain the t-case of my h55f because otherwise fluid will come out when I take the drum apart to see what's inside and why it's not working (hopefully). Everything I've read says the drain plug and fill plug are 24mm, but nothing on my t-case is 24 mm except the drain plug (shiny side on the very bottom of the t-case). What appears to be the fill plug is 17mm (in the pic with the silver t-case and plug immediately above the speedo cable on the left). Same for the tranny, the drain plug is 24mm also but the fill plug is 19mm (blue tranny with the two obvious plugs). Can anyone help unconfused me? I just need to know where the fill plug is on the t-case, in particular and why all the plugs are not 24mm (a curiosity question since everyone says they are). Thanks in advance.
